Mo Bros Have the Mo-st Fun!

Be prepared for the facial hair

6 Days til Movember!

It’s that hair-larious time of year again when men all over the world will once more join together in the macho camaraderie that is Movember.

Now, we know what you’re thinking, there’s still almost a week until Movember officially begins, but we find far too many men are ill-prepared and end up missing the starting buzz (of the razer).

Facial fuzz is in.

You see the local Mo Bros – as they prefer to be known – are really getting jacked up and the official campaign is now going strong with an excellent website that will give you all the tools you could possibly need to groom the ultimate tash.

If you’re unsure what all the facial fuzz is about, let us enlighten you briefly. The idea first came about in Australia around 1999 when a group of Adelaide men decided to grow their moustaches throughout the month of November for charity. The craze snowballed and today, Movember is celebrated with pride all over the world with the emphasis shifting to men’s health issues. Nowadays the aim of Movember is to raise funds and awareness for men’s health, and specifically cancers that affect men. Locally Movember raises funds for CANSA and raises awareness of prostate and testicular Cancer.

To this end, those wishing to participate are encouraged to register on the official Movember site and make a donation. After completing the registration (which can be easy if you simply sign in with Facebook) Mo-growers must begin the month of November clean-shaven. After which they must begin the process of lovingly tending their facial tendrils.

Select your stubble.

The Rules of Movember

1. Once registered at Movember.com, each Mo Bro must begin the 1 November with a clean shaven face.
2. For the entire month of Movember each Mo Bro must grow and groom a moustache.
3. There is to be no joining of your Mo to your sideburns. (This is considered a beard).
4. There is to be no joining of the handlebars to your chin. (This is considered a goatee.)
5. Each Mo Bro must conduct himself like a true country gentleman.

‘Mo Bros effectively become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November and through their actions and words raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health,’ according to the website.

The website itself is packed full of Movember madness that’s sure to get you in the Mo-od. In the Mo Community section you’ll find: Mo Stories – a space where participants can share their Movember experiences or offer grooming advice. There’s The Lodge: a rabbit hole where you can find yourself immersed with strange Mo-facts. The Moscars is a video awards extravaganza celebrating Mo Bros’ and Mo Sistas’ creativity with a camera. You can submit your own Movember video to be judged and be a potential Moscar winner.

It's not all serious...

There are also plenty of prizes for those fundraising fans, from draws for those who raised as little as R100 to the Mo Mo Award – for the Mo Bro who raises the most money overall. Then there’s our personal favourite, the ‘Brushes with Fame’ award for the Mo Bro who captures the best celebrity Mo-ment.

Mo Bros have Mo Fun

It’s not just about raising money though. Mo Bros are all about having a party. You can attend one of their Gala Parte’s or host your own to raise more funds for the cause. At the Gala events, you can compete in all kinds of Mo-related competitions including, ‘Best Mo in Character’, ‘Team Mo’, ‘Miss Movember’ and, of course, the ultimate accolade – ‘Man of Movember 2011’.

So this is a heads up for those guys who want to be involved. Get in early and get as many people as you can on board for a full month of fuzzy fun and furry fund-raising.
